Public Participation Labs [Laboratórios de Participação Pública] is an initiative of the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, launched in January 2016, to foster the participation of citizens on both R&D and research agenda setting.
Carried out in close cooperation with Ciencia Viva and its science centres network, Public Participation Labs is arguably the most recent and ground breaking attempt to address participatory citizenship in policy decision making in science and technology.
Since earlier this year a number of LPP have been running in Trás-os-Montes, a region located in the far northeast of Portugal, historically one of the most isolated regions in the country.
